POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Fairfield University women's tennis team defeated Marist College, 5-2, this afternoon at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion. The win lifted the Stags to a 2-1 conference record.
In the No. 1 spot, Monica Yajima defeated the Red Foxes’ Karlene Pang, 6-3, 6-2, while Sharissa Ryan clipped Marist’s Sabrina Tahir, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 2 spot. The Stags also picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 5 singles where Allison Radde downed the Red Foxes’ Callie Morlock, 6-0, 6-1, and Kaila Nelson defeated Lisa Ventimiglia, 6-4, 6-4. At the No. 4 spot was Carolina Koladzyn who fell to Marist’s Marielle Campbell, 6-2, 6-0. Rounding out singles play for Fairfield was Victoria Pirrello who was edged by the Red Foxes’ Nicole Rohan, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6 singles.
The Stags continued the winning streak into doubles play. At No. 1 doubles, Yajima/Koladzyn defeated Tahir/Pang, 8-3. In the No. 2 spot, Ryan/Karen McKeough downed Marist's Morlock/Melissa Carlay, 8-1, while Radde/Nelson edged the Red Foxes' Katherine Seitz/Campbell, 8-6, in the No. 3 spot.
Fairfield (5-7) will continue action on the road. The Stags will stop at Niagara on April 5 before traveling to Monmouth on April 8.
