Daly & Pires Named MAAC Weekly Award Winners

EDISON, N.J. – Fairfield University sophomore Connor Daly and freshman Daniel Pires swept the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Weekly Swimming & Diving Awards for the men. Daly was named the MAAC Male Swimmer of the Week after breaking three program records for the Stags, while Pires was named the MAAC Male Diver of the Week after capturing both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards at the home meet against Iona last Saturday. For his stellar performance, Pires was also named the ECAC New England Male Diver of the Week.

At the meet against Iona, Daly led Fairfield by posting victories in three individual events, breaking program records in all three. Daly started the day by breaking his own record in the 200m fly with a winning time of 2:09.12. His previous best was 2:11.65 which he clocked earlier in the season. He also broke his own record in the 100m fly with a winning time of 58.19 seconds. His previous best was 58.78 seconds which he also set earlier this year. He closed out the day by breaking his own record in the 200m IM with a winning time of 2:11.34. His previous mark was 2:11.68 which he set last season. He also swam lead leg in the 200m medley relay which finished second with a time of 1:52.27 (28.68 split).

Last Saturday, Pires captured both boards for the Stags. He placed first on the 1-meter with a score of 255.45 and recorded a first place score of 266.00 on the 3-meter.

Fairfield (0-6) returns to action on February 13-15, when the Stags head to the 2014 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships, at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, N.Y. Tickets for the event can be purchased via www.MAAC.Ticketleap.com.
