Men's Swimming & Diving Continues Action at MAAC Championships

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Fairfield University men's swimming & diving team turned in another solid showing on the second day of action at the 2014 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship.

Sophomore Connor Daly placed seventh overall in the men's 100y Fly, clocking a time of 50.87 seconds. In the prelims, Daly broke his own program record with a time of 50.74 seconds.

In the men's 3-meter diving, Daniel Pires placed 7th overall with a score of 264.95 while Evan Barr finished ninth overall with a score of 244.25. Brien Bates finished with a mark of 110.25.

In the consolation final of the 200y freestyle, Jay Cook clocked a personal best of 1:44.58 to place 11th overall in the event.


In the 1000y freestyle, Kevin Greener placed 12th with a time of 9:52.24 while Andrew Robinson was 14th with a time of 9:56.14, both ECAC qualifying times. Nick Cannoneclocked a time of 10:30.07.

The men's 200y medley relay of Daly, Rich StraubCody Parker, and Andrew Tavcar had an ECAC qualifying time of 1:38.62. The 800y freestyle relay of Parker, Andrew Robinson, Daly, and Cook posted an ECAC qualifying time of 7:00.97, just missing the program record by 0.63 seconds.

After two days of competition, the Stags are in ninth place. Rider University sits in first with 533 points while Marist is a close second with 493 points.

Friday's Preliminaries

Men's 400 IM: Senior Cody Parker posted an ECAC qualifying time of 4:21.15, just missing the finals cut.

Men's 100 Fly: Junior Brett Borgognone posted an ECAC qualifying time and a personal best of 54.20 seconds. 

Men's 200y Free: Two Stags posted personal bests as rookies Andrew Tavcar and Pat Orkins recorded1:50.56 and 1:50.92 respective finishes.

Men's 100y Breast: Kevin Kett finished with a time of 1:02.85, for a personal best, while senior Rich Straub followed in 1:02.94.

Men's 100y Back:  Senior Kyle Rozanitis posted a personal best time of 57.56 seconds.
