Carolina Koladzyn posted singles victories for the Stags.
Nelson picked up the win at No. 6 singles by outlasting Stephanie Elgegren, 6-4, 0-6, 10-6. At No. 4 singles, Koladzyn notched a 6-3, 6-4 win over Diamond Adams.
After winning the doubles point, St. John's made it 2-0 after Yanita Arnaudova recorded a 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles over
Victoria Pirrello. At No. 2 singles, Nastya Polyakova clipped
Sharissa Ryan, 6-0, 6-3. The Red Storm sealed the win at No. 3 singles when Anna Morozova topped
Allison Radde, 7-5, 6-0. At No. 1 singles, senior
Monica Yajima was edged by Khrystyna Pavlyuk, 7-6, 6-2.
In doubles, Elgegren and Polyakova picked up a 6-0 win at third spot over Pirrello and Nelson while Arnaudova and Morozova posted a 6-0 win over Ryan and Radde at the second spot. At No. 1 doubles, the St. John's duo of Pavlyuk and Adams were holding a slight 4-3 lead over Yajima and Koladzyn when the match was called.
Fairfield (1-1) returns to action on February 1 when it hosts Fordham University at the Stamford Indoor Tennis Club.
