For the fifth consecutive year, a team of former Fairfield University swimmers will be participating in
26th SWIM Across the Sound Marathon on Saturday, August 3.
Sean McGowan '02, Kevin Young '02, Michael Kennedy '02, David McGovern '03, Tom Scappaticci '07, and Frank Vitulli '04 will team up to make the 16-mile swim across Long Island Sound from Port Jefferson, N.Y. to Bridgeport, Conn.
The Stags will be competing as part of the Fourth Annual University Challenge which will also feature teams representing Claremont McKenna College, Pace University, and the University of Vermont. The University Challenge was formed by SWIM Marathon Race Director Liz Fry after seeing the former Stags swimmers participate as Fairfield University Alumni in 2009.
This year's team is close to their goal of raising $7,500 to benefit St. Vincent's Medical Foundation and their cancer education, screening, and prevention programs. If you would like to support the Stags, please visit the
