The Fairfield University women’s golf team is in fifth place after shooting an opening round team score of 349 at the 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship. The three-day event is being played at Disney’s Palm Golf Course which is playing par-72 and 6,006 yards for the women.
Butler, behind co-leaders Isabella Lambert and Jenna Peters (75), is leading the team standings after an opening 18 score of 309. Boston University shot 327, with Siena at 331 and Hartford at 341. The Stags are 13 strokes in front of sixth place Niagara, while Albany shot an opening day 400.
Emma Ritzmann is in a 10th place tie to lead the Stags, shooting a +11 83 on Friday. She had a birdie and nine pars on the day. Olivia Brooks is in a 17th place tie, with an opening round 87, carding birdies on two of her final six holes of the day.
Megan Feeney shot an 89, +17, in the opening round, carding five pars, and is in 21st place. Elly Lemons and Katherine Rockwell both carded opening rounds 90 and are part of a tie for 22nd place. Michelle Applegate, playing as an individual, also shot 90 on Friday.
The second round will be played Saturday, with tee times beginning at 7:30, and the event will conclude on Sunday.
