STAMFORD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men’s tennis team slid past Hofstra last night with a 6-1 victory, giving up just one match on the day. Sophomore Cameron Amyot clinched yet another match, while senior Justin Ziccardi earned his first dual match win.
The Stags clinched the doubles point with no trouble at all. The duo of Tesmond/Ziccardi in the three spot were the first to finish with an 8-3 victory, while Solomon/Zlobinsky followed soon after with an 8-2 win over Erichsen/Gimenez at No. 2 doubles. Competing in the one spot was the pairing of Kremheller/Amyot, the two were neck and neck with their opponent but with the double point clinched, the match went unfinished.
Fairfield’s success continued with freshman Ofir Solomon who defeated Ryhaan Gill in the four spot, 6-3, 6-3. At No. 2 singles, Erik Kremheller took two sets from Matt Gemmell, 6-4, 6-3. Amyot in the five spot, clinched the match with his win over Joe Erichsen, 7-5, 6-1. To finish the day, both Ian Tesmond and Dennis Zlobinsky edged their opponents while Reece Breault dropped to pedro Gimenez in the six spot.
The Stags will next travel to Florida for their spring break trip where they will first face Creighton University on March 11 at 11:30am in Orlando followed by Lehigh University on the 12th in Melbourne at noon.
