NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.  –
The Fairfield University women’s swimming & diving team was edged at Iona College, 131-112, this afternoon.
 
Sophomore Ashlee Steinberger won both diving events for the Stags. She posted a 227.18 on the 1-meter to win the event by 30 points. On the 3-meter, Steinberger had a winning mark of 250.50, just .10 off of her personal best. Rookie Demi Marathas was the runner-up in the women’s 3-meter with a personal best of 211.13 and placed third on the 1-meter with a score of 188.55. Sophomore Lauren Kemple was third on the 3-meter with a score of 200.78 and finished fifth on the 1-meter with a mark of 164.18.
 
In the 1000y freestyle, Meredith LaBerge posted a winning time of 10:58.43 while Alyssa Acompora placed third with a time of 11:12.78. Kate Ansani had a personal best of 11:18.19 to place fourth. In the 500y freestyle, LaBerge was edged by .23 seconds, finishing as the runner-up in 5:21.27. Acompora took third in 5:28.40 while Ansani was fifth in 5:31.38.
 
Senior Cacky Keating captured the 200y butterfly with a time of 2:18.24. Keating was also fifth in the 200y IM with a time of 2:21.40. Freshman Kelly Mulligan captured the 200y backstroke with a time of 2:16.39. She was also third in the 200y IM with a time of 2:16.31.
 
Junior Suzy Lawlor captured the 200y breaststroke with a time of 2:28.42. Callie Vacchiano was fourth in 2:40.76 while Danielle Latino had a time of 2:45.36.
 
Freshman Liz Avery was third in the 50y freestyle with a time of 26.40 seconds while Michelle Pleban finished in 26.50 seconds and Meghan Weiser in 27.46 seconds. Weiser also had a time of 58.37 seconds in the 100y freestyle.
 
Junior Margaret Osmulski took third in the 200y freestyle with a personal best of 2:00.11 and third in the 100y freestyle with a time of 55.93 seconds.
 
In the 200y butterfly, Megan Kuzniewski had a time of 2:23.38 while Kayla Kuzniewski had a time of 2:26.51. In the 200y backstroke, Bridget McGowan stopped the clock in 2:19.05 while Jaimee Carrazza had a time of 2:21.55.
 
Emily Pedrick had a time of 2:09.46 in the 200y freestyle and a time of 59.57 seconds in the 100y freestyle. Lisa Tkach had a time of 2:25.06 in the 200y IM.

The 400y medley relay of Mulligan, Lawlor, Keating, and Avery posted a time of 4:07.47 and was touched out by Iona’s relay which stopped the clock in 4:07.31. The 400y freestyle relay of McGowan, Avery, Pleban, and Osmulski placed second with a time of 3:47.00.

Fairfield (2-4) closes out the dual meet portion of its schedule next weekend when it hosts NJIT on February 2 at 1pm in the RecPlex. Prior to the meet, the Stags will honor their Senior Class.
