FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The men’s tennis team came away with a 5-2 victory against Quinnipiac University today. The win improved the Stag’s overall record to 12-4, 3-1 in the MAAC.
The Stags kept their dominant doubles play rolling by sweeping all three matches. Joe Michalisin and Erik Kremheller earned the first win for Fairfield against Eric Ambrosio and Garrett Lane in the two spot, 8-6. Following their finish were Mike Lessing and Cameron Amyot at No. 3 doubles with a 9-7 victory over Alex Lazerowich and Chris Nelson. At No. 1 doubles, Dan Sauter and Dennis Zlobinsky came back for the win against Andrew Weeden and James Kwei, defeating the duo 8-7(4).
After clinching the lone doubles point, the Stags continued the momentum into singles play. The Stags earned the first four wins in singles giving them the dual victory. Erik Kremheller and Cameron Amyot at the four and five spots finished first, each in two straight sets. Kremheller defeated Corey Morgenstern 6-1, 6-2 while Amyot defeated Ambrosio 6-4, 6-1. In the one spot, Sauter finished on an ace, taking down Weeden 6-1, 6-4. Zlobinsky at No. 3 singles defeated Lane to round out the victories for the Stags, 6-3, 6-3.
Fairfield returns to play on Friday, April 20, as they travel to Loudonville, N.Y. to take on Siena College for their second to last MAAC dual of the season.
