FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University swimming & diving team topped NJIT, 153-78, in their final dual meet of the season this afternoon at the RecPlex.
Fairfield had numerous top finishes in the mixed dual meet, including sophomore
Kevin Greener who broke a 10-year-old program record in the 1500m freestyle. Greener clocked a time of 17:11.70 to win the event and shatter Frank Vitulli’s standard of 17:35.86 which was set in January 2002.
Senior
Andrew Robinson set the Stags program record in the 100m butterfly, clocking a time of 59.98 seconds. He broke the previous standard of 1:00.72 which was set by Boris Romanovsky in 2008.
Freshman
Tyler Conley won the 100m butterfly with a time of 1:01.17 while classmate
Doug Leclair captured the 100m freestyle with a time of 55.13 seconds.
Sophomore
Cody Parker captured the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:00.83. Freshman
Chris Weaver won the 50m backstroke with a time of 30.04 seconds.
Sophomore
Rich Straub won the 50m breaststroke with a time of 33.00 seconds. Senior
Kenny Muti won the 100m backstroke with a time of 1:05.42.
Senior
Brian Friedlander posted a victory in the 100m breaststroke, stopping the clock in 1:08.75.
Junior
Cacky Keating captured the 400m freestyle with a personal best of 4:42.66. Senior
Teresa Garrity was the runner-up in the 50m freestyle with a personal best of 26.96 seconds.
The senior class comprised all of the Stags relays on the afternoon. In the 200m medley relay, Muti,
Stefan Toi, Robinson, and Garrity posted a winning time of 2:00.29. The relay of
Caroline Menapace, Friedlander,
Samantha Distler, and
Brendan Sarpu finished second with a time of 2:02.89. Coming in third place with a time of 2:06.84 was the quartet of
Norah Gentile, Emily Kelly, Anthony Caserta, and
Tommy Peters.
In the 200m freestyle relay, Caserta, Distler, Friedlander, and
Michelle Yoshida had a time of 1:50.75. Robinson, Menapace, Toi, and
Aly Criscuolo finished in 1:53.83. Garrity, Gentile, Kelly, and Muti finished with a time of 1:56.03.
On the boards, four Stags set personal bests on the 1-meter. Freshman
Evan Barr posted a mark of 243.08, freshman
Will Sullivan had a score of 225.60, junior
Ryan Krebs had a score of 222.45, and
Ashlee Steinberger finished with a score of 2:34.38 for their best performances of the year. Freshman
Joe Dowling had a score of 190.80. Freshman
Lauren Kemple finished with a mark of 175.28.
On the 3-meter, Barr posted a score of 227.33, Krebs finished with a mark of 215.03, Dowling posted a 191.70 and Sullivan had a 187.95. For the women, Steinberger had a score of 215.78 while Kemple finished with a 175.88.
The men’s team went 5-4 in dual meets this season while the women’s team went 5-5 on the year.
