MAAC Championship Results - Day 2
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senior
Michelle Yoshida successfully defended her in the 100-yard backstroke and six more records fells as the Fairfield University men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams continued competition at the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships at the Burt Flickinger Center.
Yoshida won the event with a time of 55.77 seconds, which is just five-hundredths of a second off her MAAC record. She beat the runner-up, Loyola University Maryland’s Mary Henkel by nearly three seconds (58.14). On Thursday, Yoshida picked up a silver medal in the 50y freestyle to bring her career medal total to 12.
Junior
Cacky Keating placed fifth in the women’s 100y butterfly and broke her own program record in the process. Keating stopped the clock in 58.34 seconds besting her previous standard by .09.
Sophomore
Margaret Osmulski placed sixth overall in the women’s 400y IM finishing with a time of 4:36.03. In the Friday morning prelims, Osmulski shattered a seven-year-old program record after stopping the clock in 4:34.66. The previous standard was 4:37.83 which was set by Brittany Hunter in 2004.
Junior
Paul Bimmler placed seventh overall in the men’s 100y backstroke with a time of 53.30 seconds. In the prelims, Bimmler broke his own program record by clocking a time of 52.58 seconds.
Senior
Brian Friedlander placed tenth overall men’s 100y breaststroke with a record-setting time of 58.39 seconds. Friedlander bested the Kekoa Taparra’s record of 58.54 seconds set in 2009.
In the women’s 100y breaststroke, sophomore
Suzy Lawlor captured the B Final and finished ninth overall with a time of 1:06.64 which also broke her own program record by almost a second. Senior
Emily Kelly finished 16th overall in the event with a time of 1:10.88.
In the men’s 400y IM, senior
Stefan Toi placed tenth overall with a personal best of 4:12.74. Sophomore
Cody Parker placed 16th overall with a time of 4:20.31.
Senior
Andrew Robinson placed 13th in the 100y butterfly with a time of 52.71 seconds. Senior
Brendan Sarpu posted a personal best in the 200y freestyle with a time of 1:45.71 and finished 13th overall.
The men’s 800y freestyle relay of Parker, Sarpu,
Tyler Conley, and Bimmler also set a program record with a time of 7:04.73 which placed them sixth overall.
In the finals of the men’s 1-meter diving, junior
Ryan Krebs finished fifth overall with a score of 222.70. Freshman
Joe Dowling was 12th with a mark of 193.65 while classmate
Will Sullivan took 13th with a score of 189.25. Freshman
Evan Barr finished 15th after posting a score of 168.90.
In the women’s 1000y freestyle, freshman
Meredith LaBerge placed 11th overall with a personal best of 10:36.29. Senior
Norah Gentile had a time of 11:07.41 while freshman
Katherine Kraus had a personal best of 11:39.97.
Megan Kuzniewski also had a personal best with a time of 11:11.26.
In the men’s 1000y freestyle,
Kevin Greener finished 15th with a personal best of 9:52.35 while Parker placed 16th with a personal best of 9:53.47. Freshman
Brett Borgognone also had a personal best, stopping the clock in 9:57.12.
The women’s 800y freestyle relay of Yoshida, LaBerge, Keating, and Osmulski finished fourth with a time of 7:47.63. The women’s 200y medley relay of Yoshida, Lawlor, Keating, and
Emily Pedrick finished seventh with a time of 1:50.12.
The men’s 200y medley relay of
Kenny Muti, Friedlander, Robinson, and
Doug Leclair placed eighth with a time of 1:37.92.
After the second day of competition, both teams stand in fifth place. On the women’s side, the Stags have collected 223 while Marist College leads the field with 541.5. On the men’s side, the Stags have 218 points while Rider University leads all teams with 533.5 points.
Fairfield will close out action at the MAAC Championships tomorrow, February 18, with the prelims beginning at 10am. The MAAC will be streaming the event live on

Friday’s Prelims
In the women’s 100y butterfly, senior Aly Criscuolo had a time of 1:01.99 while senior Samantha Distler recorded a personal best of 1:03.85. Senior Caroline Menapace finished in 1:04.73 while Brianna Riley finished in 1:06.59.
In the men’s 100y fly, Borgognone had a personal best of 53.84 seconds while senior Anthony Caserta recorded a time of 56.96 seconds.
In the women’s 200y freestyle, Alyssa Acompora had a personal best of 2:00.49 while Pedrick finished in 2:00.65. Megan Weiser and Kraus also registered personal bests, finishing in 2:03.38 and 2:06.07 respectively.
In the men’s 200y free, Conley just missed the cut despite clocking a personal best of 1:45.87. Senior Tommy Peters had a personal best of 1:48.29 while Leclair had a personal best of 1:48.42.
In the women’s 100y breaststroke, Teresa Garrity finished in 1:13.24 while Criscuolo had a time of 1:13.95.
In the men’s 100y breaststroke, Rich Straub and Kevin Kett both recorded personal bests, finishing in 1:01.01 and 1:03.44, respectively.
In the women’s 100y backstroke, Bridget McGowan had a time of 1:03.07 while Lisa Tkach posted a personal best of 1:04.11. Menapace finished in 1:07.64.
In the men’s 100y back, Chris Weaver had a personal best of 56.05 seconds while Muti finished in 56.17 seconds. Kyle Rozanitis had a personal best of 58.25 seconds.
