FAIRFIELD, Conn. –
The Fairfield University men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams set five program records as they swept Iona College this afternoon at the RecPlex. The Fairfield men notched a 143-98 decision while the women posted a 127-116 win over the Gaels.
 
The men’s 400m medley relay of Paul Bimmler, Brian Friedlander, Andrew Robinson, Tyler Conleyalso set a program record, clocking a winning time of 4:05.31. They broke the previous record of 4:08.57 which was set in 2009; Bimmler, Friedlander, and Robinson were members of that relay as well.
 
Robinson set an individual record as well, posting a time of 2:17.01 in the 200m butterfly to finish as the runner-up. Conley won the 50m freestyle with a time of 23.92 seconds and finished as the runner up in the 100m freestyle with a time of 54.45 seconds. Bimmler was the runner-up in a very close 200 back, finishing with a time of 2:14.93 less than three-tenths of a second off the winning time.
  
On the men’s side, sophomore Kevin Greener won the 800m free with a time of 9:03.99 and took third in the 400m with a time of 4:25.50.
 
Sophomore Cody Parker captured the 400m freestyle with a time of 4:17.36. He also was the runner-up in the 200m free with a time of 1:59.52.
 
Senior Stefan Toi was the runner-up in the 200m IM with a personal best of 2:16.66 and finished third in the 200m fly with a personal best of 2:19.23.

Senior Michelle Yoshida won two individual events, breaking her own school record in each, and was a part of a winning relay that also set a program standard. Yoshida captured the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 26.96 seconds, a tenth of a second better than her previous standard. Yoshida captured the 200m backstroke with a time of 2:23.26, shattering her previous best of 2:25.09.

Yoshida swam the lead leg of the women’s 400m medley relay which opened the meet with a record-setting victory. Yoshida, Suzy Lawlor, Cacky Keating, and Emily Pedrick set the new standard with a time of 4:30.65 to break a seven-year-old record. The former record was 4:35.11 which was set in December 2004 by Sarah Dent, Lizzie Lawlor, Brittany Hunter, and Jen Masi.

Keating captured the 200m butterfly with a time of 2:27.75 while Lawlor was the runner-up in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:46.34.

Sophomore Margaret Osmulski captured the women’s 800m freestyle with a time of 9:27.93 and was the runner-up in the 200m IM, finishing in 2:29.24, and in the 100m free with a time of 1:01.49.

Freshman Meredith LaBerge captured the 400m free with a personal best of 4:39.18. She also was the runner-up in the 800m free with a personal best of 9:28.92.

 
Fairfield swept the diving events. For the men, freshman Evan Barr posted victories on both boards. He posted a score of 234.00 on the 3-meter and a mark of 218.60 on the 1-meter. Junior Ryan Krebs was the runner-up on the 1-meter with a score of 203.80 and finished third on the 3-meter with a mark of 161.50.
 
Freshman Will Sullivan posted a mark of 149.50 on the 3-meter and a mark of 182.55 on the 1-meter to place third. Freshman Joe Dowling finished with a score of 152.05 on the 3-meter and a score of 131.70 on the 1-meter.
 
Freshman Ashlee Steinberger won both women’s diving events. She posted a score of 199.40 on the 1-meter and a mark of 223.70 on the 3-meter to lead the Stags. Classmate Lauren Kemple finished as the runner-up on the 3-meter with a score of 174.10 and took third on the 1-meter with a score of 152.50.
 
Fairfield finishes up the dual meet season on February 4 when it hosts NJIT at 1pm on Senior Day at the RecPlex.
