LOUDONVILLE, N.Y – The Fairfield University women’s swimming and diving team ended the dual meet season with a tough 165-133 loss at Siena College this afternoon. Junior
Michelle Yoshida picked up three individual victories and one relay win while sophomore
Cacky Keating set a program record.
Yoshida captured the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.38 seconds, beating out Siena’s Cait Biagioli by more than three seconds. Yoshida then took the 50y free in a time of 24.49 seconds, touching out the Saints’ Kate Ness (24.77). Yoshida ended her day by winning the 100y free in a time of 53.42 seconds slightly more than one second ahead of Siena’s Brittany Pavolko. Yoshida also was the lead leg of the winning 400y medley relay which posted a time of 4:03.93. Freshman Suzy Lawlor, Keating and freshman Moe Osmulski were the other three Stags that comprised the relay.
Keating had a solid day in the pool with two second-place finishes and a program record. Keating set the new standard in the 200y butterfly with a time of 2:10.39. She broke Brittany Hunter’s record of 2:10.70 which was set in February 2007. Keating also was the runner-up in the 100y fly with a time of 59.43 seconds and third in the 200y IM with a time of 2:16.62.
Osmulski captured the 500y free with a time of 5:19.90. She was also the runner-up in the 200y free with a time of 2:01.58 and in the 200y IM with a time of 2:15.51.
Lawlor won the 200y breaststroke with a time of 2:30.15 and was the runner-up in the 100y breaststroke with a time of 1:09.58.
In the diving events, freshman Abigail Sanders earned a pair of second place finishes. She notched a personal best on the 1-meter with a score of 202.90. She then recorded a 167.75 on the 3-meter. Sophomore Kim Pettit had a score of 113.20 on the 1-meter and a mark of 119.80 on the 3-meter.
Senior Katie Merz finished second in the 1000y free with a time of 11:12.13. Freshman Bridget McGowan took third in the 200y back with a personal best of 2:20.03. Freshman Brianna Riley set a personal best in the 100y fly with a time of 1:04.22 good for third.
The 400y freestyle relay of Lawlor, Merz, Riley, and Emily Pedrick earned second place points with a time of 3:50.16.
Fairfield finishes the dual season with a 3-5 overall record. It’s the first time the Stags finished with a record below .500 since 2002-03.
