FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams opened their 2011-12 campaign by sweeping the College of the Holy Cross this afternoon at the RecPlex. The men’s team posted a 185-106 victory while the women notched a 147-136 win. Freshman
Tyler Conley set a pair of program records in his first meet as a Stag.
Conley captured the 50m freestyle in a time of 24.02 seconds, besting the mark of 24.16 set by
Paul Bimmler last season. Conley also broke Bimmler’s record in the 100m freestyle by recording a winning time of 53.64 seconds. Conley also swam the lead leg of the winning 200m freestyle relay for his third victory of the day.
Sophomore
Cody Parker was a double-winner, capturing the 200m freestyle, with a time of 2:00.93, and the 400m freestyle with a time of 4:19.02.
Senior
Brian Friedlander won the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:09.21 while classmate
Stefan Toi picked up a win in the 100m butterfly with a time of 1:01.19. Senior
Andrew Robinson was the runner-up in 100 fly with a time of 1:02.33 while freshman
Chris Weaver was third in 1:04.18.
The Stags took the top-three spots in the 800m freestyle. Sophomore
Kevin Greener won the event with a time of 9:10.51. Freshman
Brett Borgognone was the runner-up in 9:20.47 while Weaver was third in 9:30.49. Greener was also the runner-up in the 400m freestyle in a time of 4:25.79.
Borgognone captured the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:21.89. Robinson was the runner-up in 2:22.62 while classmate
Anthony Caserta was third in 2:31.74. Borgognone also was third in the 400m freestyle (4:36.20). Junior
Andrew Hiss was the runner-up in the 100m back, finishing in 1:05.01.
Junior
Ryan Krebs won the men’s 3-meter diving with a score of 219.83, improving on his personal best by nearly 40 points. Freshman
Joe Dowling was the runner-up with a mark of 203.70 while classmate
Evan Barr was third with a score of 188.67. Freshman
Will Sullivan posted a 117.98. On the 1-meter, Barr recorded a mark of 209.48 while Dowling finished with a score of 207.98. Krebs posted 174.75 while Sullivan had a 139.36.
Fairfield took both relay events as well. The 200m medley relay of Bimmler, Friedlander
, Robinson, and
Brendan Sarpu picked up a victory by finishing in 1:52.37. The 200m freestyle relay of Conley,
Doug Leclair, Sarpu, and Bimmler won with a time of 1:38.72.
Senior
Michelle Yoshida was a triple-winner on the day for the women. Yoshida captured the 100m backstroke in a time of 1:08.68 and the 50m freestyle in a time of 27.93 seconds. She was the lead leg of the winning 200m medley relay that posted a time of 2:05.15.
Freshman
Meredith LaBerge won her first collegiate event, the 800m freestyle with a time of 9:45.96. Senior
Norah Gentile was the runner-up with a time of 9:56.79. LaBerge also captured the 400m freestyle, finishing in 4:47.31 while Gentile was the runner-up with a time of 4:48.00.
Sophomore
Margaret Osmulski captured the 100m freestyle with a time of 1:02.69 while
Emily Pedrick was the runner-up in 1:03.28. Osmulski was the runner-up in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:15.21 while freshman
Alex Hearn was third in 2:19.69. Pedrick also was third in the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:22.10 and on the winning 200m medley relay.
Sophomore
Suzy Lawlor was victorious in the 100m breaststroke posting a time of 1:18.68 and in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:54.43. Lawlor also was on the winning 200m medley relay.
Junior
Cacky Keating won the 200m butterfly with a time of 2:31.02 and was on the winning 200m medley relay. Freshman
Lisa Tkach captured the 100m backstroke with a time of 2:33.32 and was the runner-up in the 200m back with a time of 1:12.83.
Fairfield returns to action October 14-15 when it travels to New Britain, Conn. for the Central Connecticut State Blue Devil Duals.
