STORRS, Conn. – Senior
Michelle Yoshida won the 100-yard freestyle while freshman
Tyler Conley had a pair of top-five finishes to lead the Fairfield University women’s and men’s swim teams this afternoon at the Husky Invitational held at the University of Connecticut.
Yoshida won the 100y free with a time of 53.55 seconds, out-touching UConn’s Jordan Bowen who finished in 53.79 seconds. Yoshida also placed fourth in the 200y backstroke with a time of 2:08.46.
Conley, meanwhile, placed fourth in the 50y freestyle with a time of 22.02 seconds and fifth in the 100y free with a personal best of 48.52 seconds. Conley also placed 13th in the 200y freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:51.61.
On the women’s side, sophomore
Suzy Lawlor took seventh in the 100y breaststroke with a time of 1:10.21 and eighth in the 200y breaststroke with a time of 2:34.50. Classmate
Margaret Osmulski finished on place ahead of Lawlor in the 200y breaststroke, finishing in 2:33.65. Osmulski also placed seventh in the 400y IM with a time of 4:47.92.
Freshman
Meredith LaBerge placed eighth in the 500y freestyle with a personal best of 5:22.35. Junior
Cacky Keating placed tenth in the 100y butterfly in a time of 1:01.37, took 12th in the 200y butterfly with a time of 2:13.30, and finished 14th in the 200y IM with a time of 2:18.80.
The 200y freestyle relay of Yoshida, Keating,
Emily Pedrick, and Osmulski finished with in a time of 1:43.66.
For the men, freshman
Doug Leclair had a pair of personal bests in the sprint freestyle events. Leclair was sixth in the 100y freestyle with a time of 49.34 seconds and seventh in the 50y freestyle with a time of 22.52 seconds.
Sophomore
Cody Parker recorded a time of 4:29.30 in the 400y IM to finish seventh overall. He also placed eighth in the 500y freestyle with a time of 4:58.70 and set a personal best in the 200y IM, finishing tenth with a time of 2:06.59.
In the 100y back, junior
Andrew Hiss stopped the clock in 58.29 seconds to place seventh. Freshman
Chris Weaver was close behind with a time of 59.34 seconds, good for eighth place. Weaver also placed 11th in the 200y back with a time of 2:13.21.
Sophomore
Rich Straub placed tenth overall in the 200y breaststroke with a time of 2:22.15 and 13th in the 100y breaststroke with a time of 1:04.54.
The 200y freestyle relay of Conley, Leclair,
Brendan Sarpu and
Andrew Robinson placed fourth overall with a time of 1:30.18.
In addition to the Stags, the Husky Invitational featured squads from UConn, Providence, Fordham, Maine, and Vermont. There was no team scoring nor diving at the invitational.
Fairfield returns to action on October 28 when the Stags travel to Fordham for a dual meet beginning at 4pm.
