Hawkins was also dependable with the basketball, committing one turnover or less in nine games. He went three straight games without a turnover, a run which covered 105 minutes of playing time. Hawkins started all 19 of his appearances, which equaled a streak of 19 straight starts to end the 2008-09 season.

2008-09

Hawkins worked his way in to the starting lineup by midseason and never left that role for the rest of the year. He moved into the starting five for the Iona game on January 4 and remained there until the end of the season, a string of 19 games. Hawkins put together 10 straight games of double-digit scoring, a run which began with 14 points against Marist and ended in the MAAC semifinal game with four points versus Siena. He tallied a career-high 18 points twice during that 10-game stretch, the first coming at Canisius with the second effort occurring in the Hofstra game. Hawkins also handled the ball well as a sophomore, averaging two assists per game. He set a career high with four assists against Iona (Dec. 7), and nearly equaled that with three assists against Niagara (Feb. 14) and Manhattan (Feb. 27).
