Field Hockey Returns Home For Weekend Homestand

Stags Host Hofstra On Friday, Lehigh On Sunday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After returning from a road weekend with a split, the Fairfield University field hockey team will return to University Field for a pair of games including a conference match up with Hofstra University and non-conference date with Lehigh University.

The Stags will host the Pride on Friday, October 2 in a CAA game that will feature four of the top 10 scorers in the conference. On the Fairfield side, Kylie Corcoran ranks fifth overall with 15 points based on her six goals and three assists while Rylee LaLoup places eighth with 12 points, all coming off six goals.

For Hofstra, Sarah Smalley is listed seventh among the scoring leaders with 11 points (five goals, one assist), a couple spots ahead of teammate Malena Bertone's 10 points (four goals, two assists).

In the goal, Fairfield's Georgia McDade ranks fourth in both goals against average (1.82) and save percentage (.706 off 24 stops). Hofstra's goalkeeper Luci Hollister owns a 2.93 goals against average with a .667 save percentage off 46 stops.

Last weekend, Fairfield opened with its first CAA win of the season by edging Towson University by a 4-2 score. LaLoup posted two goals in the match which helped her garner the CAA Offensive Player of the Week. She followed up with a goal in the 3-2 setback against Delaware, accounting for half of her goals on the year. Alice Pifferi posted the other goal against Delaware, her first of the season to go along with her team-best seven assists.

Hofstra dropped a 4-0 decision against CAA foe and 19th-ranked Monmouth University last Friday before seeing its Sunday date with nationally-ranked Yale University postponed due to inclement weather. The team opened the season by winning two of its first three outings, defeating Rider University before taking an overtime decision over Wagner.

Lehigh also played one game last week but came up short against Patriot League opponent Colgate in a 4-0 decision. Gracen Brant and Kristina Johnson share the scoring lead for the Mountain Hawks with two goals and four points each. One of Brant's goals was the game winner in the team's opening day win against LIU.

Goalkeeper Kate Burgess has played all but 10 minutes for the Mountain Hawks, sporting a .752 save percentage with 79 saves along with a 3.80 goals against average.

The Fairfield University field hockey team, under Head Coach Laura Gebhart, will return to the road following this weekend's home stand. The Stags will head south once again for a conference date with William & Mary on October 9 before taking on VCU on Sunday, October 11. Fairfield will play five of its final six matches on the road including the final three contests.
