TOWSON, Md. – A pair of fourth-quarter goals sealed the result for the Fairfield University field hockey as the Stags picked up their first CAA victory by a 4-2 score at Towson University. The team never trailed in the game, scoring the first two goals of the game and staying ahead of the Tigers for the remainder of the game.
Fairfield took the lead early when the team found the back of the cage in the fourth minute of play.
Camille Perlov was able to beat the goalkeeper and complete a scoring play that started with
Courtland Schumacher's pass inside the circle.
The Stags struck early in the second quarter to double their advantage, this time registering the goal just 100 seconds into the period.
Kylie Corcoran controlled the ball and advanced toward the net before dishing off a pass to Rylee La Loup. The graduate student posted her fourth goal of the season to push the score to 2-0.
Towson battled back later in the quarter, a play which was set up from a penalty corner. Lydia Bennett completed the corner by converting the set piece following passes from Stevie Schultz and Skylar Santucci.
The two teams played a scoreless third quarter despite presenting ample opportunities. Both Fairfield and Towson had chances inside the circle with both squads taking three shots. All three Fairfield attempts were off target while Towson's trio of tries required saves from goalkeeper
Georgia McDade.
Fairfield regained its two lead in the fourth quarter when Kyle Corcoran finished a penalty stroke in the 50
th minute, her second goal from the spot this season. Towson brought the deficit back to a goal when Schultz pushed the ball over the line to make the score 3-2.
La Loup provided the final margin of victory after accepting a pass from
Alyse Wanchisen and turning it into her second goal of the game.
Fairfield doubled up its host in shots by registering 18 compared to Towson's nine attempts. McDade finished her time in the goal with four saves while her counterpart Riley Redding had the same total.
The Stags will continue their two-game weekend trip with a non-conference match with the University of Delaware. The contest is scheduled for a 12 pm start.
