FAIRFIELD, Conn. – For the first time this season, the Fairfield University field hockey team will travel for a weekend on the road, heading south for a Friday CAA match against Towson University before making its way north for a game at the University of Delaware on Sunday.
The Stags' have played one game away from campus so far which resulted in a 2-1 loss to nationally-ranked Yale University on September 11. Fairfield brings a 3-4 record into this weekend's action with those four setbacks coming against opponents which have combined for a 22-4 record for a .846 winning percentage to date. Three of those decisions were by a goal with one other resulting in a two-goal result.
The Stags are unbeaten when they are able to put more than two goals on the scoreboard, defeating the College of the Holy Cross, LIU, and Brown University. The group averaged five goals per game in its three wins, scoring between four and seven goals in those decisions. Overall, Fairfield is averaging 2.7 goals per match overall which places third in the CAA while its 48 penalty corners are the most all CAA teams.
Kylie Corcoran paces the Fairfield offense with five goals and a pair of assists for 12 points, double the point total of
Konni Hofmann and
Rylee LaLoup who rank second among their teammates. Hofmann has two goals and two assists to her credit while all of LaLoup's points are the result of her three goals.
Georgia McDade and
Paige Jackson saw time in the Fairfield goal last weekend and have combined for an impressive 1.59 goals against average and a .703 save percentage. McDade collected 20 saves during her minutes on the pitch while Jackson has six stops in her four appearances.
Towson owns a 3-5 overall record and a 0-1 mark in the CAA after its shootout loss to nationally-ranked Monmouth University last Friday. The Tigers responded with a season-high four goals in a one-goal win over Penn last weekend. Delfina Larippa leads the team in scoring with three goals and two assists for eight points. Riley Redding has spent most of the team minutes in the cage, making 31 saves and registering a 2.66 goals against average in eight games.
Delaware possesses a 2-5 overall record heading into the weekend with their last two setbacks coming against nationally-ranked teams - #4 Wake Forest and #15 Old Dominion. One of the team's two victories came against Monmouth by a 2-1 score on the opening weekend. Alexa Michielsen has collected the most points this season with three goals and one assist for seven points. Gabby Prentice has accumulated 13 saves in her seven starts in goal, sporting a 2.53 goals against average.
Following this weekend's action, Fairfield will return to campus for a pair of games against Hofstra University on Friday, October 2 and Lehigh University on Sunday, October 4.
