FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will host the Iona Gaels in a Metro Conference match on Wednesday night at 7pm on Lessing Field. The Stags enter the match atop the league standings as the only unbeaten team in conference play with their 3-0 record.
The Stags are coming off a 2-1 road victory over Siena for their third-straight victory.
Ashley McMahon contributed to both scores with an assist on
Ashlyn Walsh's game-tying goal in the 68th minute and looping in a free kick for the game-winner in the 81st.
For her success, she was named the Metro Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the first weekly award in her Fairfield career.
The Stags were able to snap Siena's seven-match shutout streak that spanned a national-leading 699 minutes.
The win boosted Fairfield's conference record to 3-0, marking the only Metro team with a perfect conference mark. Fairfield is now unbeaten in 31 of their last 32 conference regular season matches, including 18-straight.
Since 2024, the Stags hold the most conference victories in Division I with 23 while also posting the third-best winning percentage in the regular season (.907).
Iona enters the match with a 4-4-2 record which includes a 1-1-1 mark in Metro play after a win over Merrimack. Dolene Smith is the team's leading scorer with five goals and 12 points.
The Stags will hit the road for their next two conference matchups starting with a Saturday game at Mount St. Mary's at noon.
