FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Volleyball was on the short side of an offensive slugfest on Saturday, falling to Middle Tennessee by a score of 3-1. The Stags hit a solid .313 in the mclip.
After the loss, Fairfield completes the non-conference schedule with a record of 6-5. The Stags previously defeated CCSU and Brown as a part of this weekend's action at Leo D. Mahoney Arena. MTSU went 3-0 in its weekend up north to improve to 9-3 on the season.
Emma Bortolotti continued to pace the Fairfield attack with 14 kills on .313 hitting from the right side. Also swinging from the right,
Mamie Krubally put down 11 kills with a .391 hitting percentage.
Sophia Nagy led the middles with eight kills on 14 errorless swings, and
Aislin Oldach also put down eight from the pins.
Harlan Wyche and
Lindsey Healey added three kills apiece.
The setting duo of
Zofia Sykut and
Noella Migliuri posted identical statlines of 20 assists and seven digs.
Wyche also fueled the scoring with three of the Stags' six service aces.
Defensively,
Katelyn Cook recorded a team-leading 10 digs. At the net, Wyche had a piece of three of Fairfield four blocks. Bortolotti got a hand on two rejections.
Middle Tennessee was led by 17 kills from Gabrielle Clinkscale and 14 on .480 hitting by Michaela Dlouha.
Fairfield opens Metro Conference play next weekend with matches at Niagara and Canisius on Sept. 25-26. The Stags will also head to crosstown foe Sacred Heart (Sept. 29) before kicking off a four-match homestand with a visit from Quinnipiac on Friday, Oct. 2 that will be broadcast live on SNY.
