Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Holy Cross Clips Stags in Non-Conference Clash

Jake Gilbert racks up six points

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – In a game defined by scoring runs, visiting Holy Cross owned the final stretch of the day to edge Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse, 13-12, in non-conference action on Saturday on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. Jake Gilbert led the Fairfield scoring with four goals and two assists.

Fairfield scored five straight goals in the third quarter to flip a 4-3 deficit to a 9-4, but the Crusaders responded with a 4-0 stretch to close the gap and then netted five in a row in the fourth frame to nab the 13-12 decision.

"We need to handle the moment better during these scoring runs against us," said Head Coach Andrew Baxter. "Teams are going to score two or three in a row – we've done it ourselves in just about every game. But we can't lose sight of our fundamentals and our composure and make the mistakes that turn them into four and five goal stretches. We need to continue controlling the things that we can control in those moments."

Gilbert tied his career high with six points, scoring four goals along with two assists. At 21 goals and 14 assists, the senior attackman takes over the team lead with 35 points this season. Devin Lampron added three goals, extending his team lead to 25 goals with his fifth hat trick of the campaign.

Will Consoli and Rob Moore also had three points apiece with each man tallying a goal and two assists. In the process, Consoli became the 13th Stag to reach 50 career assists.

Rounding out the scoring, KJ Delane scored two goals, Jackson Newell dished out one, and Jason LaMay Jr. handed out an assist.

On the defensive end, Julian Radossich became the first player in program history to record 100 career caused turnovers. The CAA leader in caused turnovers had four this afternoon to reach 34 on the season and 103 in his three seasons as a Stag. Radossich also picked up five ground balls to enter Fairfield's all-time top 10 with 130 ground balls – 10th overall and third among non-faceoff men.

Andrew Kasten picked up four ground balls, both in the defensive midfield and on the faceoff wings, and Nate Livingston picked up a pair of grounders.

Daniel Davis returned to the lineup as the Stags' primary faceoff man and went 16-for-26 with eight ground balls. Jonathan Lewis added a 2-for-3 day in relief on the dot.

Landon Whitney protected the Fairfield cage and finished with 12 saves.

Holy Cross was led by two goals and four assists from Owen Tunney. JR Long earned the win for the Crusaders with 14 stops.

The Stags round out the home slate on Saturday, April 18 with a noon visit from league-leading Towson. Tickets are on sale at FairfieldStags.com/TIX.
