ORLANDO, Fla.-The Fairfield University women's tennis team (2-6) opened its 2026 Spring Trip to Florida on Monday afternoon with a 6-1 loss against the United States Naval Academy (12-4) in a match played at the USTA National Campus.
After Navy won the opening doubles match in the number two slot, the Stags responded to win the doubles point when the tandem of Maeve Cassidy and Dylin Pizzutello earned a 7-5 triumph at number three and the duo of Maria Gell and Anna Neyestani posted a 7-6 victory at number one doubles, as they prevailed in a tiebreaker by a 7-2 count.
Navy would come back to win Monday's match by taking victories in all six singles matches; five of which came in straight sets.
Nicolette Loeffler battled in the number four singles flight for the Stags, as she defeated Navy's Anna Jordaan 6-2 in the opening set before falling 4-6 in set number two and dropping a tight super tiebreaker by a 9-11 score after the outcome of the match had been decided.
Up next, the Fairfield women will take Tuesday off before returning to the courts in the Sunshine State at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, when the squad will face off against Marquette.
