ORLANDO, Fla. — Fairfield University Women's Tennis (2-8) fell to Lehigh (4-10) by a final score of 5-2 final on Thursday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
Anna Neyestani earned a victory a #3 Singles and the Stags earned the doubles point with wins in the top two flights.
Fairfield got out to an early advantage with its two doubles victories. Neyestani and
Maria Gell rolled out a 6-0 win in the top flight, while
Sophia Harris and
Victoria Mandma picked up at 6-1 triumph at #2. With the point clinched,
Maeve Cassidy and
Dylin Pizzutello saw their match at #3 left unfinished.
Lehigh took the first two singles wins at #1 and #2 to take a 2-1 advantage. Neyestani evened the score with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at #3, but the Stags would not score again. The Mountain Hawks claimed #4 singles in straight sets to push ahead, 3-2.
Sarah Liu at #5 and
Maeve Cassidy at #6 each took a set in their respective matches, but Lehigh claimed both tiebreaks to seal the 5-2 win.
Up next, Fairfield Women's Tennis will be on the WAC Outdoor Courts for the first time this spring when the Stags host LIU on Wednesday, March 18 at 3 p.m.
