Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Late UConn Run Proves Decisive in 10-6 Setback for the Stags

The Huskies ended the game on a 6-0 run

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse fought to a 6-4 lead late in the third quarter against visiting UConn on Wednesday afternoon on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. But the visiting Huskies kept the Stags off the board for the final 19 minutes of the game, ending the day on a six-goal run to head back to Storrs with a 10-6 decision. Whitney Robinson made 10 saves in the cage for Fairfield, and Tessa Caputo paced the attack with a goal and three assists.

With the loss, Fairfield evens its 2026 record at 1-1. The Huskies, who lost in overtime at Drexel last week, move to 1-1 with the win.

"I think, to be honest, both teams were sloppy. They had 21 turnovers, and we had 20; but they capitalized, and we didn't," said Head Coach Laura field. "Bu too many of our turnovers were in critical moments, clearing the ball, which gave them momentum back."

Caputo's goal was a player-down marker, and the sophomore also distributed three assists for the second straight game. Kyleigh Tufano was the Stags' lone multi-goal scorer with two, while Kelly Haggerty, Mary Henry, and Charlotte Loughlin each netted one. Katie Bergen rounded out the offense with an assist.

Haggerty, Lila Berkery, and Grace Kiernan paced the defense with two caused turnovers apiece. Kiernan also scooped up two ground balls, while Delaney Brimhall collected four. Robinson had a team-leading five ground balls in addition to her 10 saves in the Fairfield cage.

UConn was led by four goals from two-time All-Big East First Team attacker Rayea Davis. Her output included the two goals that closed the gap from 6-4 to 6-6 late in the third period. Hadley Bethke and Emma Dacey each scored two in the fourth frame to make up the 10-6 final in favor of the Huskies.

"They had that six-goal run that we literally didn't have an answer to. I thought Whitney stood on her head and kept us in the game," noted Field. "Rayea [Davis] is a great sharpshooter for them, and that's something we game planned for. If she was going to beat us, then that was just going to be the case, but we slipped up in other ways that could have put us in a better position to win the game."

Fairfield concludes its season-opening, three-game homestand this Saturday, Feb. 14 with a 4 p.m. visit from Boston University. The Terriers are 2-0 on the season after a 21-14 win at Stonehill this afternoon.

Saturday's game will be the second half of a Fairfield Lacrosse doubleheader that also features Fairfield Men's Lacrosse hosting Brown at noon. Admission is free for all fans to both games.
