FAIRFIELD, Conn. – For the fifth time this season,
Brandon Benjamin has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week. Benjamin recorded a double-double in both ends of the weekend sweep for Fairfield University Men's Basketball at Leo D. Mahoney Arena.
Benjamin averaged 15.5 points per game on .684 shooting from the floor and hauled in 12.0 rebounds per game last week as the Stags dispatched Niagara and Canisius. He posted a game-best 18 points and corralled 11 boards in the Thursday win over the Purple Eagles. In Saturday's victory over the Griffs, Benjamin scored 13 points and a game-leading 13 rebounds and also registered four blocked shots.
This season, Benjamin ranks ninth in the MAAC with 14.0 points per game and leads the conference ranking 13th nationally – with 10.2 rebounds per contest. His 4.29 offensive rebounds also top the MAAC and slot sixth in the nation. Benjamin also leads the MAAC among NCAA qualifiers in field goal percentage (.598) and ranks second in blocks (1.52/game).
Benjamin's MAAC-best 10 double-doubles to date are the most by a Stag since Supreme Cook had 16 in the 2022-23 season. He is one of 16 players in the nation, and one of just four true freshmen, currently averaging a double-double.
Fairfield Men's Basketball is back in action and back on the road on Friday, Jan. 30 for the only regular season meeting with traditional MAAC foe Iona.
The Stags return to Mahoney Arena on Sunday, Feb. 1 to host Quinnipiac at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at
