FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will host their first conference home match of the season when they welcome crosstown rivals Sacred Heart on Saturday at 1pm. The match will kickoff a Fairfield soccer doubleheader as the men's squad also take on reigning national champion Vermont at 6pm.
The Stags enter the match with a 6-1 overall record after defeating Iona 3-0 in their MAAC opener. Fairfield ranks 13th in the nation with an .857 winning percentage.
Fairfield's leading scorer
Maddy Theriault currently places second in Division I with a 1.0 goals per game average and third by averaging 2.29 points per match. She has tallied a conference-best seven goals this season with 16 points.
Ashley McMahon led the team in their win over the Gaels with the first two goals of her Fairfield career. As a team, the Stags lead the conference with 17 goals and 20 assists.
Goalkeeper
Katie Wright leads the MAAC with a 0.783 goals against average and paces the league with six wins. She brought her career total to 46 victories and is three shy of tying the program's all-time record.
Sacred Heart enters play with a 3-3-1 overall record and a 2-0 mark in the MAAC after shutout wins over Siena and Manhattan. Goalkeeper Kyran Thievon leads the conference with a 0.861 save percentage while allowing just five goals for the year. Shea Kelleher leads the offense with four goals.
The Stags will compete in a midweek road match, making the trip to play the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Wednesday at 2:30pm.
