Stags Host Harvard and FDU This Weekend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will host a pair of teams on Lessing Field this weekend to close out August's Free Summer Soccer. The Stags will first take on Harvard on Friday at 6pm and close out the weekend when they compete against FDU on Sunday at 4pm. Both matches will be free for all fans. The Stags have currently won 17-straight matches at home, the longest active winning streak across the Division I landscape.

A big part of their recent success has been the play of senior Maddy Theriault who is coming off a week where she earned Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week honors as well as MAAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades. The MAAC Preseason Player of the Year recorded her first career hat trick and tied a Lessing Field record with seven points in Fairfield's win over Vermont.

She has been a part of all seven Fairfield goals this season with five goals and two assists. She currently ranks in the top-four nationally in both total goals and total points.

In her career, she is tied for second in Fairfield history with 36 goals and alone in second place with 14 game-winners.

In net, goalkeeper Katie Wright has recorded all three victories moving her career total to 43, tying her for second on the all-time list.

Fairfield has won 17-straight at Lessing Field, the longest home active winning streak in Division I. Under Head Coach David Barrett, the Stags are 41-6-3 on their home pitch, representing an .850 winning percentage.

For the second-straight season, the Stags will be partnering with Avery's Little Army, an organization dedicated to fighting against childhood pediatric cancer. The organization was founded to honor Avery Lafferty, a talented young midfielder with a gift for finding the back of the net and more importantly bringing her team together.  She played each game with passion, intensity and smile on her face. Fairfield will be donating $10 per goal scored this season.

Harvard was picked to finish third in the Ivy League Preseason Poll after finishing fourth last season. The Crimson have played just one match this season, falling 1-0 to UMass.

FDU was picked to finish second in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Preseason Poll while picking up four first-place votes.

Fairfield will have nearly two weeks off before opening up their MAAC slate on the road against Iona on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 1pm.
