FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will compete for the first time on Lessing Field since winning the MAAC Championship when they compete against the Vermont Catamounts in their home opener on Sunday at 4pm. The Stags have posted 16-straight wins on their home pitch, the longest active streak in Division I.
 
The Stags will bring a 2-1 record into their first home match after playing their first three on the road. The MAAC Preseason Player of the Year Maddy Theriault has been involved in all three goals for the Stags with two goals and an assist.
 
The senior in a tie for third all-time. She also sits alone in second place with 13 career game-winning goals, fourth in points (84), and tied for eighth with 18 assists.
 
Fellow Preseason All-MAAC selection Sam Kersey connected on her first goal of the season while Kelly O'Connor and Ashlyn Walsh combined on the assist for Theriault's game-winner.
 
In net, Katie Wright made three saves in picking up her 42nd career win, ranking her third in program history. She is one victory away from tying Christen Veach '96 for the second-place spot.
 
Vermont will bring an 0-0-2 record into the match after tying a pair of MAAC opponents in Merrimack and Sacred Heart. The Catamounts were picked to finish fifth in the America East with midfielder Sydney Remington picking up a spot on the Preseason squad.
 
The home opener will be free for all fans as part of the program's Free Summer Soccer.
 
This will be the start of a three-game homestand for the Stags who will also face Harvard on Friday and FDU on Sunday.
