Stags Ship Up to Face Boston University

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A pair of preseason favorites in their respective conference will face off as the Fairfield University Women's Soccer team, the top-team in the MAAC Preseason Poll, will travel to face Boston University, the favorites in the Patriot League on Thursday at 6pm. Both teams are also coming off conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances last season.

The Stags will bring a 1-1 record into the match following a season opening win at Holy Cross and a setback to Rutgers. Maddy Theriault has tallied the lone goal for the Stags this season with the game-winning tally against the Crusaders. Three games into her senior season, Theriault ranks in the top-five all-time in points (81), goals (32), and game-winners (12).

Fairfield has out-shot both of their opponents, tallying 31 in those contests which ranks second in the MAAC. Theriault is the MAAC leader with 11 attempts and a 5.5 average.

Boston University posts a 1-0 record after a 3-0 victory over New Hampshire in their season opener. The Terriers were well-represented in the Patriot League Preseason Poll as they earned the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year (Margy Porta), Midfielder of the Year (Giulianna Gianino), Defensive Player of the Year (Helene Tyburczy), and Goalkeeper of the Year (Bridget Carr).

The Terriers are under the direction of Head Coach Megan Burker who was an assistant coach for the Stags for three seasons, helping the program to a MAAC Championship appearance in 2019. She also helped coach 12 All-MAAC selections and 56 MAAC All-Academic recipients.

The Stags will next take part in their 2025 home opener at Lessing Field when they welcome Vermont on Sunday at 4pm.
