Mount Hands Fairfield First MAAC Loss

Haggerty and Henry each score two for the Stags

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse ended Saturday afternoon's MAAC game at Mount St. Mary's on a 5-1 run, but an early deficit proved decisive as the host Mount held on for a 10-7 decision. Kelly Haggerty and Mary Henry each scored twice for the Stags.

The loss snaps a 14-game MAAC regular season winning streak for the Stags, who slip to 3-1 in the conference as a part of a 5-7 overall record. The Mount stays unbeaten at 4-0 in conference play and improves to a league-best overall tally of 8-4.

Haggerty netted two goals after scoring five in Wednesday's win over Quinnipiac and now shares the team lead of 27 tallies with Grace Slater. The two-goal outing for Henry is her third multi-goal performance of the season.

Brooke Marotti, Kyleigh Tufano and Amanda Kozak each added a goal for the Stags. Haley Burns dished out two assists and Katie Bergen had one to round out the Fairfield scoring.

On the opposite end of the field, Keira Furey made eight saves protecting the cage and came away with six ground ball. The unit in front of Furey included Katherine Shammas, Macey Daly and Eva Petrone with one caused turnover apiece.

The Mount was led by a hat trick from Anna Salerno along with two goals and two assists from Mackenzi Furlong. Camille Thomas made 10 stops to record the win in goal for the hosts.

Fairfield heads to the other extreme of the MAAC footprint, making the trip to Canisius for a 4 p.m. contest on Wednesday, April 9. The Griffs are 5-7 overall and 2-2 in the MAAC after an 11-10 overtime win today at Marist.

The Stags return home next Saturday, April 12 to host Manhattan at 1 p.m. Fairfield Women's Lacrosse will celebrate Senior Day prior to opening draw against the Jaspers.
