Stags Stopped at Columbia

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Fairfield University Baseball team dropped an 18-7 decision at Columbia in midweek action. Three Stags recorded multiple hits in the setback with Matthew Bucciero, Sean Meth, and Billy Sullivan all picking up a pair. The Stags will now head back home to Don and Chris Cook Field for their first-ever series against Merrimack starting on Thursday.

Fairfield (26-9) was the first on the board as they plated a pair in the first. Bucciero started the scoring with a RBI single through the left side and Nick Sturino followed with a sacrifice fly.

The Stags, however, would give up four in the bottom half and had to rally in the second. Meth cut the deficit with a RBI double and Sullivan tied the game with a single to left.

Columbia would plate five more runs in the second to retake the lead at 9-4. Fairfield had one final rally in them, cutting the deficit to two with a Bucciero single and a two-RBI double from Meth.

The Lions would score nine more times the rest of the way to thwart any Fairfield comeback.

Eight different Stags picked up hits led by the trio of Bucciero, Meth, and Sullivan. Meth led the team with three RBI.

Fairfield will now host Merrimack for their first-ever series against the Warriors starting on Thursday at 3pm.
