FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Brooke Marotti tied two Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse single-game records to lead 13 different Stags that notched a point in a 20-6 win over Manhattan on Saturday on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. Celebrating her Senior Day, Marotti was the first Stag in over 25 years to record seven assists and 10 total points in a game.
With the win, Fairfield improves to 7-7 on the season at 5-1 in the MAAC. The Stags are tied with Iona and Mount St. Mary's atop the MAAC standings with two regular season games remaining.
Manhattan falls to 2-12 on the year with a 1-5 league mark.
Marotti's seven assists matched the seven distributed by Jessica Jordan in a 1999 win over Le Moyne. Her 10 points tied a program record established by Kristina Sullivan against Marist in 1998.
"That's an amazing performance by Brooke, I'm incredibly happy for her to have a game like that on her Senior Day," said Head Coach
Laura Field. "But even with Brooke having 10 points and [Amanda] Kozak having eight, we still had terrific balance on offense and played great team defense."
Amanda Kozak posted her second consecutive eight-point day, this time netting a hat trick with five assists.
Grace Slater,
Paige Gardner,
Haley Burns,
Kyleigh Tufano and
Mary Henry all added two goals.
Kelly Haggerty,
Katie Repp,
Katie Bergen and
Katherine Shammas also scored once to lead the Stags to 20 goals for the second straight game.
The tallies by Shammas and Repp marked the first career goal in each of their respective careers.
Led by the combined 12 assists from Marotti and Kozak, Fairfield assisted on 18 of its 20 goals. Haggerty and
Tessa Caputo each doled out two helpers, and Slater and
Katelyn Greeley had one apiece.
Brynn Donnelly helped keep the Stags on the attack with nine draw controls. Burns had two draw controls as part of another standout statline for the senior with two goals, two caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Grace Kiernan had three caused turnovers and two ground balls to lead the defense, with Shammas posting two caused turnovers and three grounders.
Maggie Lonsinger also had two caused turnovers and picked up four ground balls.
Keira Furey started in the cage and made six saves.
Anya Holland took over in the second half, just the second appearance in the career of the senior goalkeeper.
Prior to the game, Fairfield recognized its six seniors: Bergen, Burns, Holland, Marotti, Slater and Tufano.
"All six of our seniors represent what our program is about," said Field of the Class of 2025. "They were behind great players as underclassmen and didn't play much, but they all trusted the process and trust each other, and found ways to contribute every year and really every day that they have been here at Fairfield."
The Stags conclude the home portion of the regular season on Wednesday with a 3 p.m. visit from Sacred Heart. The Pioneers are 6-7 overall and 4-2 in the MAAC after a Saturday win at fellow league newcomer Merrimack.
