LAST TIME OUT
Three days after a double overtime win against Sacred Heart, Fairfield turned in another dramatic display on Feb. 22 against visiting Manhattan.
Keegan Lynch scored the equalizing goal with 27.8 seconds left to send the game into overtime, and
Devin Lampron got the game-winner 33 ticks into the extra session to propel the Stags to an 8-7 victory.
The Stags last instance of back-to-back overtime games was a pair of extra-session wins over Bryant and Utah during the 2019 season.
Goals were at a premium on Saturday with
Owen Hirsch posting 12 saves for the Stags and Manhattan's Connor Hapward turning aside 19 shots. Hirsch also scooped up four ground balls with one caused turnover on the day.
The defensive in front of him was highlighted by three caused turnovers apiece for
Austin McClintic and
Rory Thompson. Defensive midfielder
Matt Rice wreaked havoc with the short-stick, finishing with four ground balls..
In addition to the dramatic Lynch and Lampron goals, the Stags got two tallies and an assist from
Rob Moore – the hero in Wednesday's double overtime win – as well as two markers from
Jake Gilbert.
Fairfield utilized three faceoff men en route to a 12-6 advantage at the X. Davis went 8-for-12 with four ground balls,
Dylan Smith was 3-for-4 with two grounders, and
Jonathan Lewis won one of his two opportunities on the restart.
For Manhattan, Sean Shelko had a four-point day with three goals and an assist. Drew Hiner added one goal and one helper.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. PROVIDENCE
Fairfield is 13-6 all-time against Providence dating back to the inaugural varsity season of 1993. The teams played annually from 1993-99 and again from 2003-08. After a two-game tilt in 2014-15, the Stags and Friars have revived the annual home-and-home since 2021.
The teams have traded wins in the last seven meetings, a trend that Fairfield looks to upend on Saturday.
BONUS BALL
Fairfield has played back-to-back overtime games for the first time since defeating Bryant and Utah in extra sessions during the 2019 season.
The Stags last played three straight overtime games in 2012, as a part of their 7-0 start to the campaign. In succession, Fairfield knocked off Bryant in double overtime, Hofstra in triple overtime and then UMBC in overtime.
ON THE BALLOT
The Stags are ranked #18 by the
Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and #20 from USA Lacrosse. Fairfield had not earned a national ranking since being ranked #20 by the coaches in the preseason edition of the 2017 USILA ledger.
The Stags were the first team out of this week's USILA Coaches' Poll.
STARTING STRONG
Fairfield Men's Lacrosse is 4-0 for the first time since 2012, when Fairfield ran off seven straight wins en route to a 12-4 final mark. The Stags' four wins in 2025 include two victories over reigning conference champions: 2024 Patriot League Champion Lehigh and defending MAAC Champion Sacred Heart.
I LOVE LAMPRON
Devin Lampron is the back-to-back CAA Rookie of the Week. He earned the honor after scoring twice in the Feb. 15 win at Brown, and then repeated as the top rookie with a two-goal, one-assist week that included the Feb. 22 overtime game-winner against Manhattan.
For the season, Lampron has scored as a team-leading eight goals. He entered the week as one of 15 freshmen in the nation averaging at least two goals per game.
OWEN GETS GOIN'
Owen Hirsch was tabbed as the CAA Defensive Player of the Week after Fairfield's 2-0 week.
Hirsch spent a total of 126:43 in the cage as the Stags were victorious in double overtime against Sacred Heart on Wednesday and bested Manhattan in an extra session on Saturday. He made 20 saves with 19 goals allowed for a .513 save percentage and a 9.00 goals against average. The senior also vacated the crease to create one caused turnover with five ground balls.
This season, Hirsch ranks second in the CAA and 13th nationally with a 7.54 goals-against average. He is also second in the conference and 26th in the nation with a .563 save percentage.
