STORRS, Conn. – Haley Burns and Mary Henry scored two goals apiece to lead Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse on Wednesday, but the Stags were on the short side of an 18-5 loss at #24 UConn in Storrs. Kelly Haggerty also had a two-point day with one goal and one assist.
The Stags fell to 0-2 with the loss while UConn improved to 2-0 on the new campaign. The Huskies, who defeated nationally-ranked Drexel on Saturday, are ranked #24 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll while receiving votes in the IWLCA Coaches' Poll.
In addition to two goals, Burns filled out her statsheet with a team-best five draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover. With her goal and assist, Haggerty nabs the team lead through two games with six total points.
Tessa Caputo rounded out the scoring with an assist for her first career point.
In the midfield, Eva Petrone pitched in with three draw controls.
Keira Furey made her first start in the Fairfield cage and finished with seven saves.
UConn was led by six goals from Rayea Davis. Ava Plata and Eliza Bowman each tallied a hat trick for the Huskies. Tori Cini made seven saves to ice the win.
The Stags are back on the road next Wednesday, Feb. 19 for a trip to Boston University.
Action returns to Rafferty Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 22 with a noon visit from Hofstra. Admission is free for all fans to all Fairfield Women's Lacrosse home games this season.
