Stags Celebrate Black Excellence on Thursday Night; Host Saint Peter’s

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball program will host their third annual  'Black Excellence' game and host the Saint Peter's Peacocks in a MAAC contest at Leo D. Mahoney Arena at 7pm. For the event, the women's basketball program has partnered with different organizations and clubs on campus, such as the Black Student Union, to be recognized during the game.

On the court, the Stags are coming off their 36th-straight win against a MAAC opponent, but had to rally from a fourth quarter deficit for the first time this conference season. Road Runner Raiana Brown was the star of the game as she poured in a season-high 31 points on a perfect 11-for-11 from the floor. She became the first Stag in program history to record a perfect shooting night with at least 10 made field goals and the sixth in the nation this year.

For her success, Brown earned a trio of weekly awards including: USBWA National Player of the Week, MAAC Player of the Week, and the All-Met Player of the Week.

For her career, it was the 46th time she has tallied at least 20 points and now ranks 14th in the nation among active players with 2,216 points.

The 36-straight conference victories now ranks fourth in the nation, behind only FGCU, South Dakota St., and UConn. Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis has moved up to 18th among active Division I coaches with a .765 winning percentage.

Saint Peter's enters play with a 5-7 record in the conference and is coming off a home win against Manhattan. Fatmata Janneh, a MAAC Player of the Year candidate, leads the team in points (18.6) and rebounds (10.6) per game.

Fairfield will next travel to Manhattan to face the Jaspers on Saturday at 2pm.
