WEST POINT, N.Y.-The Fairfield University Men's Tennis team (0-2) began a busy weekend of action at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York on Saturday evening, as the Stags fell in a hard-fought match to the Bucknell University Bison (3-1), 4-2.
The Bison earned Saturday's doubles' point as the won matches at number one and number two by identical 7-5 scores.
Fairfield's number three doubles squad on Saturday of sophomore Luca Benaibbouche and junior Alex Aguiar picked up a 6-3 victory.
Both Benaibbouche and Aguiar earned singles' victories on Saturday, as Luca won at number three when his opponent retired trailing 0-3; and Alex picked up a straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, victory at number five.
Freshman Zach Whittington played a tight match at number six singles for head coach Jeff Bricker's squad, but he fell in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6.
Sophomore Calum Jessett split the first two sets of his match at number three singles, 6-4, 5-7, and trailed in the third set, 1-2, but his match was not completed because the team outcome has been decided.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Stags, as they will get right back on the courts on Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m.; closing out the weekend by taking on the host Black Knights of Army West.
