NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team scored three second half goals to overtake the Merrimack Warriors with a 3-1 decision in the regular season finale.
Maddy Theriault,
Sam Kersey, and
Payton Zaun all touched the back of the net to give the Stags their second comeback victory in their last three matches. Fairfield improves their overall record to 15-1-2 and finish their conference schedule with an unbeaten 10-0-2 mark. The Stags become the fourth Fairfield squad to finish the MAAC regular season without a loss and the first since the 2002 team.

"We dug ourselves an early hole but I'm really proud of our response in the second half," Head Coach
David Barrett said. "Our seniors Sam, Maddy, Emilie, and Jess all made key contributions tonight. Obviously Maddy and Sam got key goals at important times to lead the way."

Fairfield, who are ranked No. 25 in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer, earned their seventh-straight win and improved their unbeaten streak to 16-straight, the second-longest active streak in the nation. Fairfield also holds the fourth-highest winning percentage in Division I for the second-straight season.

The Stags had to fight back from a halftime deficit – just their second of the year – after surrendering a goal in the second minute.

Fairfield would respond with two goals in the span of seven minutes to regain a lead they would not relinquish. Kersey started the scoring output with her sixth goal of the year with
Krista Tehan recording her first collegiate assist.

Theriault gave the Stags the lead with her MAAC-leading 15th goal of the year, marking the seventh-straight match with at least one score. It was also the 16th game-winning goal of her career, setting the new program record. Theriault entered the match seventh in the country in total goals and in the top-10 in points.

Fairfield closed out the scoring with a goal in the 74th minute with a strike by the two-time MAAC Rookie of the Week honoree Zaun.

In total, the Stags out-shot the Warriors by a 32-8 margin with 12 of those attempts on target.
Alyssa Gluting and
Marilyn Dixon split time in net with Dixon picking up her first collegiate win.

The Stags, who have posted a 36-4-4 record in the conference over the last four seasons, have clinched the MAAC Regular Season Championship for the second-straight campaign and the third time during that stretch. They will be the tournament's top overall seed an host a Semifinal match against the lowest remaining seed on Thursday night at Lessing Field.
