FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will host one of their biggest regular season games in recent history as the first-place Stags welcome in-state rivals Quinnipiac for a battle for first-place in the MAAC on Thursday at 7pm. The Stags enter play with a perfect 9-0 conference record, but the Bobcats are right behind them with an 8-1 league mark. Both teams are currently ranked in the top-15 in the College Insider Mid-Major national rankings.
In total, the Stags have won 32-straight games against conference opponents in a stretch that spans nearly 690 calendar days. Fairfield most recently cracked the Top-10 in the Mid-Major, their highest ranking since the start of the season.
Fairfield is coming off a 74-55 victory over Merrimack, their eighth road win of the season which ties them for the most in the nation.
For the first time in her career,
Cyanne Coe led the Stags in scoring with a career-high 18 points on a very impressive 8-for-9 shooting. In MAAC games, she is shooting .745 from the floor which is nearly 120 points higher than the closest MAAC athlete.
Coe accounted for 18 of the team's 42 bench points in the win at Merrimack, the third-highest total for the Stags this season. Fairfield enters the game averaging 25.5 bench points per game which ranks 33rd in the country.
The Stags also enter the contest with statistically the best offense in the MAAC, leading the league in: points per game (74.7), assists (18.5), field goal percentage (.473), and 3-pointers per game (8.9).
Quinnipiac has also grabbed headlines this season with an impressive 16-2 overall record which includes quality wins against: Harvard, Princeton, and Southeastern Louisiana which are all ranked in the top-25 in the Mid-Major poll. Freshman Gal Raviv has been the team's best offensive threat with a team-high 16.4 points per game.
This contest will also be Fairfield's annual Pride Game with the program selling Pride T-shirts and recognizing various LGBTQ+ clubs on campus.
Fairfield will stay at Leo D. Mahoney Arena and host Iona on Saturday at 2pm.
