Swimming & Diving Teams Host UMass On Saturday

Programs Will Honor Seniors During The Meet

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams will complete the home portion of their 2024-25 campaign when they host the University of Massachusetts on Saturday. The Stags will honor their senior class as part of the dual meet with senior ceremonies scheduled to begin at approximately 12:30 pm.

Fairfield comes into the weekend off a sweep of Iona University last Saturday with the men posting a 156-144 win and the women garnering a 216-82 victory against the Gaels. The victory improved the men's overall record to 4-3 on the season while the women boosted their ledger to 5-2 on the year.

The two teams combined for 19 individual first-place finishes, highlighted by Erini Pappas' three victories. The senior secured the top times in the 200 IM (2:07.01) the 200 back (2:02.45), and the 100 back (56.86). And, she joined Tone Sandsjo, Lara Kisakol, and Olivia Thompson in winning the 200 medley relay, clocking in at 1:43.40.

Ed Hunt was also a multiple winner for the men in the Iona meet, taking first-place swims in the 200 fly (1:51.29), and the 200 IM (1:53.22). On the diving board, Lily Tonole grabbed the top spot in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events, scoring 208.40 and 200.63 points respectively. Andrew Cataldo continued his success on the board, taking first place in the 1-meter (233.92 points), and third in the 3-meter (202.80 points).

The Massachusetts swimming and diving programs competed at the Tate Ramsden Invitational on the campus of Dartmouth College last weekend. The women registered nine top-five finishes while the men added 12 top-three placements in the event.

Diver Andrew Bell paced the men's team with two first-place finishes in the 1- and 3-meter events. He opened up by netting 326.45 points in the 1-meter on the first day of competition before following up with 401.50 points in the 3-meter dive.

For the swimmers, Sammy Quigg grabbed second place in the 200 IM by recording a time of 1:54.31 while Aydin Erkan also collected the same finish in the 200 fly, completing the distance in 1:50.09. On the women's side, Maria Grishaeva secured second-place in the 200 breast based on her time of 2:19.30 while Anna Kwon earned second in the 200 fly by finishing the event in 2:06.01.

Following the UMass meet, the Stags swimming and diving teams will begin preparation for the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships which runs from February 12 through February 15. The event will take place at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio.
