FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will host the Marist Red Foxes on Saturday at 2pm at Leo D. Mahoney Arena. The Stags will enter the game as one of two remaining unbeaten teams in the conference with their 4-0 record. It is the seventh time in program history, and the third time in the last four seasons, Fairfield has started their conference slate by winning their first four games. In total, the Stags have won 27-straight games against MAAC opponents, a streak that spans 672 days.
Fairfield used a second half explosion to keep that perfect conference record intact, leading to a 22-point road win over Iona on Thursday. The Stags built a 17-0 run in the third quarter while shooting nearly 70 percent in the quarter and outscoring the Gaels 21-5.
Kaety L'Amoreaux, who was the team's leading scorer for the seventh time this season, started the rally with a personal 8-0 run which included back-to-back 3-pointers.
Cyanne Coe followed with her own 6-0 spurt and
Izabela Nicoletti Leite capped the stretch with a 3-pointer.
Aside from the offensive statistics, Fairfield's defense once again clamped down on an opponent, holding the side to 50 points or fewer for the third-straight game. Faifield currently holds the lowest scoring defense in the conference allowing opponents to tally just 56.8 points per game, ranking 40th in the country. In conference games, opponents are averaging 49.0 points per game while shooting 36 percent from the floor.
The Stags had their fourth-straight double-digit win against a MAAC opponent, and are currently beating MAAC teams by an average of 23 points. Fairfield has only trailed for five of the 80 total minutes against MAAC teams this season.
Marist enters with a .500 record both overall (7-7) and in the MAAC (2-2). Lexie Tarul is the team's leading scorer with 13.1 points per game while averaging 2.4 3-pointers per contest.
Fairfield will next embark on their Western New York trip, starting with a visit to Niagara on Thursday at 11am.
