FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fifteen matches inside Leo D. Mahoney Arena highlight the 2024 schedule for Fairfield University Volleyball. The reigning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Champion Stags will host high major foes Boston College, Villanova and West Virginia as a part of the non-conference slate.
The 2024 season begins in Provo, Utah at BYU on Aug. 30-31 where the Stags will challenge three NCAA postseason qualifiers from last fall in High Point, Southeastern Louisiana and the host Cougars. High Point is the defending champion of the Big South while SELU – the only first-time opponent on the non-conference schedule – won the Southland Conference in 2023. BYU finished third in the Big XII en route to the Second Round of the NCAA Championship.
Action comes to Mahoney Arena for the first time on the following weekend with the Fairfield Invitational. The Stags will welcome Boston College, Central Connecticut State and Binghamton to North Benson Road for a round-robin tournament on Sept 5-7.
The Stags will remain in Connecticut on the following weekend to participate in the Yale Invitational on Sept. 13-14. Fairfield will challenge a pair of conference champions in the Ivy League Champion Bulldogs as well as the Patriot League's top squad in Colgate.
A run of three straight high major challenges is up next, starting at Mahoney Arena against Villanova on Sept. 15. The Stags then visit St. John's – the Big East Tournament Runner-Up in 2023 – on Sept. 18 and return to Mahoney Arena to welcome West Virginia on Sept. 20.
One final non-conference matchup dots the middle of league play as the Stags host Bryant on Oct. 23.
In total, Fairfield's 12 non-conference opponents boasted a .625 winning percentage (228-137) last fall. The slate includes seven top-100 RPI teams, four conference champions and five NCAA participants from the 2023 campaign. Ten of the 12 non-league foes finished the year with winning records, including seven over the .600 mark.
The 2024 MAAC schedule begins with a road weekend at Iona and Manhattan on Sept. 28-29. The conference slate has remained at 18 matches despite the addition of Sacred Heart and Merrimack into the mix. The Stags will not host Iona or Manhattan and will not visit Siena or Marist, while playing a home-and-home against the remaining seven MAAC foes. Notables from the conference slate include a visit from Sacred Heart on Oct. 2 – with the crosstown rematch set for Oct. 30 – and a series with Quinnipiac on Oct. 5 at Mahoney Arena and Nov. 3 in Hamden.
The 2024 MAAC Championship is scheduled for Nov. 22-24 at Siena College.
Fairfield Volleyball won the MAAC Championship for a program-record 13th time in 2023. The Stags, who finished the season at 22-7 in the NCAA First Round at #12 Purdue, also won the MAAC Regular Season Championship for the fifth consecutive season and the 22nd time in the last 28 campaigns.
