Canisius Steals Game Two

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Visiting Canisius tallied nine stolen bases with four of those swipes coming in a six-run second inning to take an 8-4 decision over the Fairfield University Baseball team. The Stags recorded 10 hits with Payten Wawruck leading the squad with three.

Canisius opened the scoring with six runs in the second inning on just four hits. Mike DeStefano had the big hit for the Griffs with a two-run single.

The Stags tried to chip away at the deficit while scoring runs in three-straight innings. After fouling a ball off his leg, Dean Ferrara stepped up and line a two-strike pitch down the left field line to score Luke Nomura with Fairfield's first run.

Fairfield would take advantage of a couple of Canisius errors by scoring two of their next three runs on miscues. Wawruck tallied the only run-scoring hit in that stretch with a RBI single in the fifth.

Chris DiFiore gave the Stags five stellar innings out of the pen, surrendering just an unearned run on six hits and three strikeouts.

DiFiore's success allowed the Stags to stay within striking distance, but they could not claw their way back by stranding a runner in each of the last four innings.

The two teams will play the rubber game tomorrow at noon.
