HAMPTON, Va. – Seventeen different players contributed a point as Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse wrapped up the regular season with an 18-8 victory at Hampton. The Stags were led offensively by
Jake Gilbert and
Bryce Ford, who each netted a hat trick.
The Stags, who entered the day already locked into the third seed in next week's CAA Championship, improve to 8-6 overall and 5-2 in the CAA. In addition to its first CAA playoff berth and winning conference record since 2016, Fairfield has also secured its first overall winning campaign since 2016 (excluding the canceled spring 2020 season in which the Stags finished 5-2).
Hampton ends its second season in the CAA at 0-13 with an 0-7 league tally.
Gilbert's hat trick was his second straight and his fifth of the campaign. The sophomore, who also dished out one assist, wraps up the regular season with 24 goals and 13 assists. For Ford, his hat trick is his fifth straight – all in CAA play – and eighth of the year. With 37 goals and 13 assists to his credit, Ford wraps up his second consecutive 50-point season.
Tommy Elliott and
Jason LaMay Jr. each added two goals, with single markers coming from
Will Consoli,
Jake Coleman,
Keegan Lynch,
Reilly Sullivan,
Brady Strough,
Casey Realini,
Trey Ordway and
John Okupski.
A total of 13 of the Stags' goals were of the assisted variety. Consoli and
Luke Okupski each had a pair of helpers. Gilbert, Elliott, LaMay, Lynch,
John Okupski,
Dean Ford,
Cam Barisano,
Chris Adornato and
Malcolm MacInnes all distributed one to facilitate the Stags' second 18-goal effort of the season.
Keeping the Stags on the attack,
Jonathan Lewis went 10-for-11 at the faceoff X with three ground balls.
Ryan Hamburger and
Daniel Davis each added three wins on the spot.
Defensively, a quartet of goalies each played one quarter.
Owen Hirsch made the start in the cage and stopped all three shots that he faced.
Will Snyder made two saves in the second frame,
Colin Consoli had three in the third, and
Peter Leonard turned away one Hampton offering in the fourth quarter.
The unit in front of the Fairfield cage was guided by three caused turnovers and five ground balls for
Braden Lynch.
Eli Adams also nabbed three grounders with the long pole with
Julian Radossich collecting two.
Hampton was guided by two goals and an assist from Ellison Burt-Murray. David Sadasivam made 14 saves for the host Pirates.
As the third-seeded team in the CAA Championship, Fairfield will play second-seeded Delaware on Thursday, May 2 at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to the CAA Championship Game slated for Saturday, May 4 at 3:30 p.m. The tournament will be held at Towson's Johnny Unitas Stadium.
