EMMITSBURG, Md. – The Fairfield University Baseball team clinched a series win by taking the rubber game over Mount St. Mary's with an 8-3 final score. The win brings Fairfield's MAAC record to 12-2 which places third in the conference. The Stags have won all four of their series this year including 16-straight dating back to 2022.
The Stags scored the first five runs of the game while plating a run in the first three innings.
Zach Selinger got the offense started with a solo shot to left, his third of the spring.
Dean Ferrara forced in a run with a bases loaded walk in the second. Fairfield would double that advantage by plating a couple of runs in the third with RBI singles by
Tyler Kipp and
Nick Sturino.
Sturino would have another run-scoring hit in the seventh as he doubled in
Matt Bucciero to put the score at 5-0.
The Stags would add to their lead with a Bucciero sacrifice fly in the eighth and cap their scoring output with a Ferrara RBI single in the ninth.
On the mound,
Colin McVeigh picked up his team-leading fifth win of the season by allowing just one run in 6.2 innings while striking out eight. Over his last four starts, McVeigh has held a 1.32 ERA over 27.2 frames with 39 strikeouts and four walks.
Four different Stags picked up multiple hits with Ferrara, Bucciero, Kipp, and Sturino all picking up a pair.
Fairfield has now won 16-straight MAAC series dating back to early April of 2022. They will look to keep the momentum going with a pair of midweek games, starting with a home contest against crosstown rivals Sacred Heart on Tuesday at 3pm.
