Top-Seeded Stags Drop Rider, 4-1, to Surge into Sunday’s MAAC Championship Match

Fairfield reaches the MAAC Final for the third time in four years

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – For the third time in the last four seasons, Fairfield University Men's Tennis will play for the MAAC Championship. The top-seeded Stags knocked off Rider, 4-1, on Saturday in the semifinal round to advance to Sunday's final. Fairfield will play Quinnipiac, the number two seed, who edged the number three seed Marist, 4-3, at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, New Jersey.

With the win, Fairfield moves to 14-8 and extends its winning streak to 11 matches.

As they have done in every conference clash this season, the Stags began Saturday's action by winning the doubles point. Thomas Smart and Sam Hodges started off with a 6-1 win at #1 singles, and the duo of Nick Condos and Will O'Brien earned the clincher with a 6-3 victory at the #2 spot.

The Stags quickly grabbed a 3-0 lead with Smart and Hodges each taking straight-set wins in the top two singles flights. Rider fought back with a win at #4, but Condos earned the clinch again with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 triumph to send Fairfield back to the finals.

First serve in the 2024 MAAC Championship Match is slated for Sunday at 2 p.m.
