#23 Stags Top Rider to Claim Share of MAAC Regular Season Championship

Fairfield has won 14 consecutive games

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – #23 Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse locked up at least a share of the MAAC Regular Season Championship with a 19-11 win at Rider on Wednesday afternoon. The Stags have won 14 consecutive games following today's victory in their first-ever meeting with the Broncs.

The nationally-ranked Stags stand at 14-1 on the season and 8-0 in the MAAC. Today's outing marked the first time that Fairfield has conceded more than 10 goals during the winning streak as Rider netted the game's last four goals after the Stags had taken a comfortable 19-7 advantage.

The regular season title is the second straight for the Stags. Fairfield has also won five of the last six regular season crowns and 15 in total dating back to 1999. The Stags travel to second-place Siena on Saturday to attempt to lock up the outright title. The winner of that matchup will also earn the top seed in the upcoming MAAC Championship.

In today's contest, 11 players contributed to the scoring as Fairfield racked up 10 assisted goals en route to matching their season high with 19 total markers. Amanda Kozak scored all five of her goals in the first half and Kelly Haggerty netted three of her four before halftime to guide the Stags to a 14-4 lead at the break. Earlier in the week, Haggerty was presented with her third consecutive MAAC Rookie of the Week honor.

Elizabeth Talluto tacked on five points with two goals and three assists. The Stags' leading scorer as aggregated 53 goals and 20 assists for 73 points on the season. Talluto has matched her goal output from last season to rank sixth on the Fairfield single-season charts, while her 73 points are tied for seventh in a single-season in program history.

Libby Rowe added two goals and an assist to cross the 50-point threshold (52), and her fellow graduate student Maggie Fort also potted two goals with an assist. The Stags got single goals from Sarah Bucher, Haley Burns, Brooke Marotti and Rylee Harrell.

Rounding out the scoring, Bucher distributed two assists while the duo of Christine Fabrizi and Mary Henry each had one helper.

The Stags stayed on the attack with a 17-16 advantage in draw controls. Brynn Donnelly hauled in eight draws working from the center dot with Rowe flying in from outside the circle to nab three. Harrell and Katherine Shammas each added a pair of draws.

Defensively, Lindsey Barnes headed the unit with three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Julia Rigolizzo scooped up two grounders on the backline, and Claire Morris vacated the cage to pick up a pair. Morris also made seven saves in 47:26 of work. Phoebe Proctor completed the effort in goal and made one stop.

The first-year Broncs slip to 8-8 overall and 2-6 in the MAAC with the loss. Rider was led by a hat trick from Selena Carrington, who also corralled six draw controls.

Saturday's game at Siena is slated for 1 p.m. to wrap up the regular season. Regardless of result, Fairfield has clinched a bye to the semifinal round of the MAAC Championship on Friday, May 4. More information regarding the postseason will be announced as it is finalized by the conference office.
