FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Eleven different players contributed to the scoring for #23 Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse on Wednesday afternoon as the Stags rolled to a 17-5 victory over Quinnipiac on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium.
Libby Rowe notched her 200th career point in the MAAC home win, and
Maggie Fort hit the 100-career point mark.
With their 12th consecutive win, the Stags move to 12-1 on the season and a perfect 6-0 in the MAAC. Quinnipiac slides to 2-10 on the year and 1-5 in conference action.
"It was a good home win. I'm happy to see some players hit milestones and some players come off the bench and contribute in big ways," said Head Coach
Laura Field. "But I do think we want a little bit more. This is the part of the season that we need start playing our best, and I would have liked to see us play a cleaner game. So that will be focus going into another conference game on Saturday and into the final stages of the regular season."
Rowe netted her fifth consecutive hat trick and also dished out an assist to eclipse 200 career points. She is just the third Stag to reach that mark, joining Kristen Coleman and her teammate
Elizabeth Talluto, who hit 200 points on Saturday. Coleman had a program-record 257 points, followed by Talluto's 205 – which includes four goals and an assist today – and Rowe's 202.
Fort scored a goal and dished out two assists to reach an even 100 points in her career. The two-way midfielder adds 100 points to a career statline that also includes 48 caused turnovers, 64 draw controls and 102 ground balls.
Today's action also featured
Mary Henry's first career hat trick as she scored three of the Stags' fourth quarter goals. The last marker of the day was assisted by
Megan LeBlanc for her first career point.
Rounding out the scoring for Fairfield,
Sarah Bucher netted two goals,
Amanda Kozak and a goal and an assist, and the trio of
Christine Fabrizi,
Rylee Harrell and
Kelly Haggerty each scored once.
Brooke Marotti dished out one assist.
The Stags stayed on the attack courtesy of nine draw controls from
Brynn Donnelly. Outside the circle, Rowe flew in for four wins, while Henry and
Eva Petrone each corralled two.
With the offense hanging 17 on the Bobcats, the MAAC's top defense matched its season best with only five goals allowed – the fourth time Fairfield has limited its opening to just a handful. Fort and
Julia Rigolizzo aided that effort with two caused turnovers apiece as the Stags pressured Quinnipiac into 18 miscues.
Lindsey Barnes flipped the field with four ground balls.
In the cage,
Claire Morris got the start and made three saves.
Phoebe Proctor finished the effort and faced only one shot but collected three ground balls.
Quinnipiac was led by two goals apiece from Lauren Kenny and Cate Bendowski. Abby Wise assisted on four of the Bobcats' five markers. Lindsay Mazzucco made 10 saves in the QU cage.
Fairfield Women's Lacrosse finishes the regular season this Saturday, April 13 with a noon visit from Manhattan. The Stags will celebrate Senior Day at approximately 11:45 a.m. prior to opening draw with the Jaspers.
Manhattan is currently 4-10 overall and 1-5 in the MAAC following a 12-7 loss to Canisius this afternoon in the Bronx.
