FAIRFIELD ,Conn. -- The Fairfield University softball team will have to make more adjustments to the schedule this weekend with its three-game series at Saint Peter's University being adjusted due to weather and field conditions. The weekend will send the Stags to Jersey City for a single game on Friday beginning at 2 pm followed by a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 pm.
Fairfield is looking to build on its three-game series against Iona University last weekend which opened up the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) portion of its 2024 schedule. The team split a doubleheader with Iona on Friday before dropping the rubber game on Sunday afternoon. Still, pitcher
Chela Kovar emerged as a solid option from the series, tossing four scoreless innings on Sunday after earning the victory on Friday. For her efforts, Kovar captured the MAAC Co-Rookie of the Week honor for her performance.
Megan Forbes hit her first home run of the season during the Iona series and followed with a solo shot on Wednesday against Central Connecticut State University in a non-conference match up. Forbes raised her season RBI total to seven with the long ball, tying her for second on the team with
Morgan Sylvestre.
Allie Bridgman continues to be the team's top run producer with team-leading totals in both home runs (4) and RBI (9).
Sylvestre, who already has two MAAC Player of the Week honors in her pocket, owns a .415 batting average which currently sits second among all MAAC softball student-athletes. Bridgman is also making her mark in the MAAC, tying for fourth with her four home runs so far.
Saint Peter's brings a 10-14 overall record into the weekend after splitting a pair of games with Rider University in their last MAAC action. Since that twin bill, the team has dropped three of four, splitting with Fairleigh Dickinson and falling twice to Wagner College.
Maiah Skakal paces the offense with a .406 batting average and a .473 on-base percentage, registering 26 hits and seven walks in her 23 starts this season. Cara McNulty serves as the team's top run producer with 17 RBI and 15 runs scored through her 23 appearances. Angelina Wagner (5-3 record) and Kristen Brennan (4-5 record) have contributed inside the pitching circle.
Following the weekend series, Fairfield will host Columbia University for a single game on April 3 before heading to Siena College for a three-game set on April 6 (doubleheader) and April 7 (single game).
