Stags #Play4Kay on Thursday Against Quinnipiac

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The MAAC Regular Season Champions, the Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will look to continue their momentum when they host in-state rivals Quinnipiac at the Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Thursday night at 7pm. This contest will also be Fairfield's annual Play 4 Kay initiative aimed to raise donations and awareness for breast cancer research. T-shirts and raffle tickets will be sold and donations will be collected to support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. A silent auction will begin an hour prior to tip-off. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to promote breast cancer awareness.

On their last time on the court, the Stags clinched their fifth MAAC Regular Season Title in program history – their second in the last three years – with a convincing 95-65 victory over Niagara on Saturday. The Stags shot a season-high .633 in the game, marking their fourth-most accurate game in program history and the best in any contest since 1990.

The win extended the nation's second-longest active winning streak to 22-straight games which puts Fairfield's overall record at 24-1 and a perfect 16-0 in the MAAC. The 24-1 record is the second-highest winning percentage in the nation and is one win shy of tying the program's single-season record.

Freshman Road Runner Meghan Andersen led the Stags with a 26-point outburst against the Purple Eagles, the sixth time this season she has scored 20 or more points in a game. That success helped her earn her tenth MAAC Rookie of the Week award, becoming just the third freshman in MAAC history to claim double-digit Rookie of the Week honors.

She also found her name in the national spotlight as she earned a spot on the Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Year Watchlist. She was one of just 40 players on the list and one of just four rookies.

Quinnipiac enters play with a 10-16 overall record and a 7-10 mark in the MAAC. Freshman Anna Foley is a three-time MAAC Rookie of the Week winner and leads the team in points (13.3) and rebounds (7.1).

Fairfield will next embark on their last road trip of the season, first visiting Manhattan for a matchup with the Jaspers on Saturday at 2pm.
